As President and CEO of London Drugs, Wynne Powell recognized that fast, efficient business travel can transform a busy executive's schedule. Mr. Powell was the architect of London Air Services in 1999, drawing from his corporate experience, a thorough understanding of technology, and a solid background in accounting and finance.
Under Mr. Powell's direction, London Air Services was born, blossoming from an idea to a single corporate jet in 1999. In the years since, Mr. Powell has built on these modest beginnings, overseeing aircraft acquisition and the completion of the state-of-the-art London Aviation Centre. The LAS fleet will continue to grow over the next few years with delivery of the Bombardier Learjet 85 and Global 6000 jet, realizing Mr. Powell's vision of a reliable, efficient, productive travel alternative.
The London Air Services fleet is managed by veteran aviator, Chris Simpson. Mr. Simpson earned his pilot's license in 1979, and went on to fly as a professional pilot with Canada Jet Charters. During this time, he lent his expertise to British Columbia's Air Ambulance Operation, flying into remote locations to provide assistance to individuals in distress.
In 1999, Mr. Simpson became Captain for London Air Services, moving to Chief Pilot in 2004, and then Operations Manager in 2005. His years of experience in the air make him uniquely qualified to manage the complex operations of London Air Services.
The London Air Services fixed wing division is managed by Gary Farn, an experienced aviator with over 30 years' flying experience. Mr. Farn started his flying career in 1974 in Ontario. In 1979, he moved to British Columbia to fly with Airwest Airlines, later Air Canada Jazz. In 1988, Mr. Farn began flying jet aircraft with the Canfor Flight Department and Westjet Airlines.
Mr. Farn brought this diverse background in flight to London Air Services in 2001. Today he provides his expertise as Chief Pilot in the Fixed Wing Division.
The London Air Helicopter Division is managed by Dylan Thomas. Mr. Thomas began his flying career in the Canadian Air Force in 1991. In the Air Force, he gained a broad experience in VFR and IFR flying. Mr. Thomas was selected to fly for the elite Special Operations Flight in support of JTF-2, working his way up to Flight Operations Officer. His experiences include VVIP missions, NVG operations, and a variety of classified counter-terrorism missions.
After 10 years in the military, Mr. Thomas returned to Vancouver to work for Helijet International, working his way up to Training Officer, responsible for 40 pilots. During this time, Mr. Thomas was also a British Columbia Air Ambulance Captain, flying to coastal communities and answering medevac calls day and night to accident sites from Tofino to Kamloops. Since joining London Air Service in 2005, Mr. Thomas' experience has been a tremendous asset to our growing helicopter division.
Chris Lacroix manages Aircraft Maintenance for London Air Services. Mr. Lacroix began his career with small piston engine aircraft in northern Quebec and northern Ontario. Once in British Columbia, Chris worked for nine years for Anderson Air, maintaining a fleet of turbo-prop aircraft that were available round the clock for the British Columbia Air Ambulance Operation. Later Chris joined Pacific Aero Tech as a Senior/Lead AME for on-line engine maintenance and Lead Hand for Challenger and Gulfstream100.
Chris started as Lead Aircraft Maintenance Engineer with London Air Services in 2003 when the company received its second Challenger. He was promoted to Director of Maintenance in February 2005. Chris's wide range of experience on airframe, engines and avionics has been invaluable in managing the London Air Services growing fleet.
